Episode 14 - Saturday, November 8th, 2008 - 7:00PM EST

Note the nonstandard date! Seeing as how the first Saturday in November falls the day after Halloween, I'm pushing the recording one week later.

Topic ideas:
  • How do I start with this stuff? Exactly how it sounds. How do you start out getting into gamedev, from an almost 0-level experience. What options are there, or, more realistically, what steps did we take to break into the wonderful world of gamedev. For this one we can assume a basic knowledge of some programming language or another.
  • Games that keep on giving: what game have you replayed the most number of times, and why? What made it so re-playable for you?
  • Project updates: we haven't done this in a while
As always, ideas are welcome. If you know that you'll be attending for sure, please let me know as early as possible. I would really like to stop the last-minute/day before confirmations.

How do I start with this stuff? Shoot, that implies that I even know what I'm doing half the time. We'll see what we can do. :P

Pretty sure doesn't cut it. Soon enough I'm going to require people mark this in their calendars and shoo people away when it comes time for the almighty podcast!

Considering we're been averaging three participants I don't think you'll be shooing anyone away ;)

No, definitely not.

You and doty are the new "regulars" since the last few episodes. It's a shame more people don't step up to participate and share their game-making knowledge and experiences with the rest of us. ;)

You know, PoV, you could always come on and discuss your recent experience with Smiles and what it's like to jump into the iPhone arena. Huh, huh?

That would be damn cool. I'd love to see a special roundtable where PoV discusses his finished product and we get to grill him on various subjects related to the dev process / marketing / approval / etc.

Audio quality was pretty good this time. I was fighting the urge to clear my throat every other sentence! That... actually went surprisingly well considering it was just the two of us.

Sorry, I actually was planning on showing up too, but I just finished the video 20 minutes ago. Youtube's still taking it's sweet ass time to upload though. I'll have more to say about this in my thread.

Hey, I had 11 or 12 in a row there. I blame time change and wintriness.

I think we should come up with some very off the wall or controversial subjects for our next podcast, since it's the year-end episode.

*comes out of the lurking shadow*
Even for just you to people, this was still good to listen to. I enjoyed it. Someday, I'll get back into game dev and hopefully maybe even join in on a podcast sometime. That would be cool to do. If I did game dev now I definitely would but I don't so my participation would be very minimal with pretty much all topics ever covered so far, heh.

Keep up the good work guys.

That's the thing! A lot of lurkers say stuff like "once I start developing again, I will contribute", but honestly -- even your thoughts on the process of game development are useful. You don't have to be actively doing actual development work to have to have something to say (on the podcast or on the boards). I know that many developers who currently aren't working on anything actively are still actively thinking about the types of things they could be working on.

I wish it were easier to dissuade people from using that as a reason to not contribute when said people are full of good ideas or comments regarding one such thing or another. Pshaw!!

Case in point: I haven't been actively developing anything for at least six months.

Fair enough and I under what you (both sonrisu and Sirocco) are saying but I haven't even been thinking about anything. I just know what type of games I'd like to try to tackle someday.

edit: And my participation on the board (or lack there of) isn't because I don't do any dev'ing... I'm just not a big forum talker. I read them because I just let things pile up for a bit so I have things to read later, heh. Forums are to slow for me to stay interested enough to partake in most of the time. No offence to anyone on here. =)
