Cool talk about the commercial issues with game emulation I found on reddit:

That was pretty good. Thanks for sharing. Now I'm feeling like I have to go play some old games. :]

Finally... after >10 long years of being trapped in the internet stone-age, the only feasible local ISP finally expanded their network (VDSL2, fuck yeah!).

Say goodbye to the last 1% of productivity I may still have had in me as I proceed to consume loads of passive entertainment that wasn't easily available before. :D

Also upgraded my gaming OS from Windows7 to Windows10 now (using Spybot Anti Beacon to block the builtin malicious MS spy features). Pleased with the performance in games so far, don't have hard facts but it feels like it's a bit smoother than before. Still using Arch Linux for everything else.

Got a link for that? My windows machine is only for gaming really, but it might be helpful to know what is and isn't secure.

Under Windows, I use these three tools for protection (and on top of that, careful computer/network usage habits of course):Using the free editions of all of those seems sufficient.

When it comes to finding trustworthy sources, I usually go through http://www.chip.de/ .

Oh, I think I remember some of those. And yeah, it's a damn fine upgrade.

Probably Toronto, but Vancouver is a nicer city (right along the water). If I had a choice I'd be out Vancouver area, but my family is here (2 hours from Toronto), and I'm comfortable. ;)

Vancouver is a 3 hour drive to Seattle. Boston/New York City are quite-a-ways further from Toronto, a good day trip by Train (~11 hours). It's not far from Niagra Falls though (~1 hour).

Not really a tech hub (sort of, it's the Capitol of Canada), but Ottawa is also surprisingly nice. Very spread out, and it's the French'est part of English speaking Canada (right on the Ontario/Quebec border), but it's a really nice city. You need to like Winter to live there though. ;)

And not a tech hub (mainly oil companies), but Calgary is actually a nice city too. I like to call it the Texas of Canada, but imagine Texas without the guns, and with winter. Surprising amount of "cattle culture" there.

Ha, my point, I'm not the biggest fan of Toronto. I don't have a good reason, I'm just not. ;)

Some asshole stole my air conditioner from my window during the night, and left the window open for my cat to escape.

I found her and she's fine, but I'm seething with rage. I feel violated.

I wish I'd been awake at the time; I'd have gone all Sonny Corleone on the sumbitch.

Yeah, I've heard of that happening from time to time, especially when copper was a hot commodity and it was easy to fence. And doing that during the summer? Death by steamroller, says I.

:/

There's a big new release of Dolphin that's supposed to have a bunch of optimizations.

Almost stutter-free Reyn Time now. Neato. On previous versions the intro never ran smooth here and now it only breaks down to 7fps briefly on two or three occasions.

I tested it on my rig and it played a nice smooth 30 fps and never dropped frames @ 2650x1440 (2x internal res upscaled). Audio glitching is also gone. Yay!

Damn, the shader generation stuttering still wasn't fixed. That's the biggest thing holding me back from using Dolphin as much as I'd like to; Playing the Metroid Prime series at an acceptable fps is little more than a pipe dream
