Bomberman is obviously the best version.

To be fair, Carmack was always a tech guy. The content had nothing (or very little) to do with him. They would have probably gone here with him as well, but he found more fun things to do.

I haven't been paying too close attention, but I seem to recall that people seemed to like the new Doom game, despite the boxart.

Jokes aside, it actually looks like Doom Guy'ish. It's a bit more practical looking though (you wouldn't exactly visit Mars wearing the Armor equivalent of short sleeve belly shirt).

I don't care if hell is hot. Mars is cold.

If anything, it's more sad that every other game mentioned "works" with the boxart created for Doom.

Yeah we can't blame Carmack for this one. And indeed the game itself has been getting a shit ton of praise. I will certainly be playing it on release.
I've read the multiplayer is good. Like old school fast pace twitch shooter good. I miss ol Quake3. People actually still play that but it's only the old die hards left and I grew tired of playing the same people every time. DOOM should bring some new blood. Hell a new generation! I look forward to slaughtering them.

Fixed it for you:

Brightness based conversion with custom gradient definition employing "Project One", Commodore and Bethesda logo would work as sprite overlays. Upper border would need to be opened. Image itself should work in standard MultiColorBitmapMode and would need to scroll over two screen heights.

So after the outcry, they made some alternative box art.

That should have been their first choice. That is Doom.

Those new covers are metal as fuck, much cooler.

Just goes to show how much of a difference aesthetics can make to a game!

Yeah, whoever proposed the initial cover art should be sacked.

I propose that they should be put in a sack, and mercilessly beaten!

Damn this game. What a grossly inaccurate characterization of the skills and talents of my grotesque, belligerent legions. No mere man can stand against my unending waves of soldiers and live to tell about it. Damn him.

Therefore, I am left with no choice but to consider this a work of fantasy, a fiction. Once I reached this inevitable conclusion, I decided I could acceptably enjoy the game as a game.

I will tell you what I liked about this mortal offering:

* An interesting story. It is true, we do have a portal that leads to Mars, and we have used it a number of times.

* Text diaries. I cannot believe what a cult these people were. They had some good biologists, but I to hell with them for obtaining their data from live undead specimens.

* Weapon upgrades. Some of them felt useless, sure, but what would you expect from humans? Why would I care about detonating a rocket in mid flight when I can simply use the auto targeting mechanism?

* Runes. They needed more damned runes, but whatever. Upgrading them by completing objectives, a good call. Same goes for the weapon masteries. Fire.

* Map. Hell of a map.

* Bathrooms had functional toiletry.

Now I will tell you what I hated:

* Story not very believable. Like I said. Damned human egotism. I'll destroy this "Doom Marine" with a single fiery nostril flare.

* Load times. Perhaps that damned Bill Gates should have built a faster xbox.

* The occasional invisible wall. DAMN YOU.

* One of the bosses toward the end.

* Not enough humans to kill

The final boss was pretty damn cool, at least.
