Hi,

The IRC channel now requires registration with Freenode. This is very easy to do, and prevents all kinds of stuff like spamming and channel takeovers. Also, registered users can private message each other, and it cuts down a lot on the channel admin which I have to do (well, the admin I'm *supposed* to do :-). For further information, then Freednode FAQ addresses this issue here: http://freenode.net/faq.shtml#userregistration

To register, once you have logged on to Freenode, open message NickServ:

/msg NickServ register mypassword

Then, identify yourself before you enter the main ##gdr channel:

/msg NickServ IDENTIFY mypassword

Most IRC clients support doing this automatically, so you might want to investigate that. As of 2200BST today (10th September, 2006), if you attempt to connect to the ##gdr IRC channel without registering first, you will be re-directed to an empty channel (and this message).

The channel will remain open to non-registered users for another couple of weeks, when it'll go invite-only, so register soon.

Thanks!

Note: This stuff is in its own topic so it can easily be linked to from the IRC channel. If you want to discuss this with me, please message me. Just let this sink to the bottom :-) *Locked*
