Hehe, it sure didn't look like spring here two days ago but when I looked outside this morning all the snow was gone.

You guys still have snow too? Yeah, we had snow until last weekend or so. Pretty fucked up stuff for this region.

Yeah, but I live in Belgium, we usually have like 10 days of snow a year and this year it was on and off from december to now

We have had it like that for ages too. Just a couple of weeks of snow but now, an oldschool winter.

Yeah, I was in San Fran for the week. I wish I had more time to enjoy the sunny weather, but alas I was indoors conferencing all week.

I guess I forgot to check for Snow when I got back... heh. I actually can't remember if there was snow outside or not. haha!

Man, I have had plenty of nightmares regarding what will happen if games DO become an exceptable "art form". In short, it's not pretty or fantastical. If anything, it's the polar opposite . Otherwise sloppy and mediocre game design become overlooked issues, game fans get away with complaining about trivial matters, such as the color of a character's eyes or the design of a company's logo, and the games with the previously mentioned design quirks get the "almighty artifact" treatment like their presence is mandatory for stabilizing the medium's existence.

I don't mind the whole "games are art" argument, and even support it to a large extent, but what I don't care for is the inevitable creation of a hive-mind clique that obsesses over games that are far more 'art' than they are 'game.' See also, modern art.

Make the game first, then add purely artistic elements as necessary. Do it in that order, or make something else instead. IMO, obviously.

Like Braids.

I think that guy actually did it right. He created a game that was fun to play, with crappy graphics.

Then he got an artist and wrote the story.

As an artist, I get a lot of programmers asking me for art. My reply is usually: finish the game first. If it's fun, I'll happily do all the art.

Indeed. It's always a shame to see awesome art made for a game that never ships.

Well, FF13 is now available in stores for those who are interested (from what I see, it's probably gonna be none of you).

I got to play this at GDC, and chat with the guys a bunch. 4fourths. Pretty neat. Check out the trailer, the production quality is top notch.

Give me one reason? I didn't like the previous 12, why would this one be different (I'm lying, I kinda liked 9)

The music in that trailer is killer.

As for the avatars, they look fine to me?

I'll wait for that to go down below 30 bucks... besides, I've got Pokemon HeartGold to play.

Yes, that was actually a serious statement. :P

^___^

I appreciated the visuals of 12, as well as the simplicity and overall non-emo aspect of the plot, but the MMO-styled gameplay left a bad taste in my mouth. 8 and 9 were trash. 7 was tolerable for its time. 13 looks terrible in every possible aspect. But if you're looking for a high-end PS3 RPG your choices are still a bit limited. I guess I was just spoiled by how awesome 5 and 6 were.

Scottrade's website is a slow pile of shit. But they do provide a good service for a low price. I don't do any short term trades, just investments. Currently it's been a loss (thanks recession).
Depending who you talk to your going to hear horror stories or tales of riches. Kinda like ebay. It's easy to fuck up. But if you do your research you can find success.
