Just finished the third round of beta testing and updating. I've started making a checklist of everything to double check before releasing the demos and full versions.

the linux version is fully operational now, so it'll get released alongside the windows one.

deleter needs to double check all his dialog and story text and i need to do another complete play through just to be safe. then it'll be off to Desura. they seem to take 1-2 weeks before they can get around to play testing your files before they publish. In the mean time, the updated win/linux demos will be up on IndieDB.

The finished product has been sent in for review at Desura. It has come quite a long way in the last 6 months. The entire game feels pretty polished and has most of the aspects you'd expect from a retro action RPG.

We had some problems yesterday with the Linux build. If you try to quit the game within a certain window, the audio threads lock up. We're going ahead with launching the windows version while we get past this road bump though.

Other than that, it should be a really good initial release with the mac version following suit very shortly.

here are a few new screenshots:

Hey everyone,

If you would like to play the updated demo (includes an entirely new beginning level before the manor), or would like to play the full version, it is now available on Desura.

http://www.desura.com/games/manor-of-the-damned

You do not need the Desura client to download either version if you don't want to use it.

This is the first time I've released a commercial game. Please let me know if you have any comments/criticism, and especially if you find bugs :D

Thanks

The demo downloaded and ran just fine. Did you have an easy time getting set up with Desura?

Edit:

Actually, I take that back. The demo failed to install. It updated my .net stuff, then prompted for a reboot. That was where I thought stuff was finished (wasn't paying enough attention. Damn pr0n). I had to run the installer a second time, and it crapped out with "A script required for this install to complete could not be run." error. It also took a really long time to initialize. Whatever you're using as a packager on Windows, you might want to look at something else?

Yea, it was packaged incorrectly, I'm sending them an updated one.

The Desura thing was pretty easy. You just set up an account and make your way through the developer options. IIRC, they review your game and offer you a sales contract, then you can move forward with adding your stuff to the site. The entire process is not quick, so it's better to start it early.

Please give this one a shot:

I don't want to alarm you... but that didn't work either :)

Anyway, what happened is the installer insisted on installing the MSVC runtime stuff, and once it finished it error'd out because the version it wanted to install was older than what I already have. I couldn't bypass that part of the installation! Jesus, if I keep this up I won't be able to complain about BadMrBox's box being bad any more!

Also, Asia :)

oh wow. that's really interesting.... my first instinct is to just upload an archive, but that doesnt really solve the installer issue. i'll look into it some more and see what i can dig up.

Also, a guy on youtube did a great little review of the game. He found a bug during the recording, which is unfortunate, but somewhat funny. We've since addressed the bug and the updated version will be active on Desura soon.

ok, i installed the msvc2010 sp1 runtimes and now i get the same problem. if you run Rijn_win_x86.msi it should install just fine without trying to install the runtimes. we're going to continue looking into this.

OK Sirocco, we've updated the installer. Please give this one a try if you don't mind. BadMrBox and I tested it after we reproduced the error in the first one.

Thanks!

Okay, it fails with the same problem I had originally (a script required for this install to complete could not be run).

Do you have a like to the aforementioned msi?

Some quick updates. the Linux64 and Mac versions are coming along pretty quickly and should be out really soon. Rijn was listed on indiegames.com best of indie games for last week. we've also had a bunch of awesome video reviews as well as a great written review by Wildcard777 at gamebanana: http://www.gamebanana.com/reviews/30

Aha nice one! Just got the demo, seems to run perfectly well on my mac, will probably buy :). Love the production values of this, lots of work obviously has gone into menus and interface on top of the game. I'm lost atm in the demo, will have to explore a bit.

Quite a bit of action on manor of the damned this week/weekend. i've put in new game plus and made a bunch of map modifications. with deleter's help, rijn now supports unicode fonts.

the game has been signed to 4 more publishers. which should be available on their sites pretty soon.

here is a new title screen with some character art i had commissioned and showing the unicode fonts.

Oh, that's cute! I like the icy contrast on the title. It makes it 'pop' out extremely well.

hey everyone, Rijn has gotten some big updates this week.

I did a major revamp of the game website: http://www.TheHideoutGames.com

recent game updates:
    added 3 new songs
shows item name on weapon switch menu
    various bug fixes
english/japanese/swedish support - with help from deleter and badmrbox
unicode support - with help from deleter
new title screen - commissioned caricature artwork
tab now skips music track playing
    new game + mode
    fixed osx/linux config file location
    made boss 2 harder
    reworked boss 3 behavior
    many more secret rooms
    new monster behaviors
added weapon L/R hand settings hot-swappable

the game is currently being translated into japanese by Playism.jp, and the new version will be available on Desura, Gameolith, Playism, Gamer's Gate, Green Man Gaming, and my own website very soon, some within this week.

Made some great progress today working on the Rijn site. I've updated it so that you can purchase and download directly from The Hideout as well as Desura. As well as get the demo straight from my site.

Also, Slushy_ posted a hilarious preview video that you can find here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UIEqSGJysE4

I was really surprised to see all the people in his comments saying they wanted to play it so I dropped the price quite a bit.

This is the first time I've run my own personal store, so it will definitely be a learning experience :D

Needless to say, you got my vote ^^.
BTW did I really see a guy downvoting it because it doesn't have multiplayer? Some people needs to fall off a tall building.
