This is where I'm currently at with face studies. I can do one of these in about 120 seconds. These are all obviously without reference. Trying to teach my brain to construct faces, without idealizing each feature. Once I get this good, I'm going to try to do emotions and after that, likeness over different angles.

Ballpoint marker on course paper

This guy does a rundown on how he creates logos as a freelance designer. I found it quite inspiring/awesome.

That last one looks very Amano-esque, and that makes me happy. Do you have anything more recent?

Digging that charcoal-like range of tones.

Doodles made while waiting for other players to finish their turns in Master Of Orion 2:
(had not drawn anything in months... I should play more MOO2 (or more turn based strategy in general, like CivIV and AoW))

A #petscii #pixelart study of #tachikoma for #pixel_dailies (on twitter). :D

I do not know the S.A.C. manga/anime so I referenced it from the images on http://ghostintheshell.wikia.com/wiki/Tachikoma.

I like when folks like stuff. Sometimes feels that is one of the reasons for doing stuff.

I really dig your animation. I LOOOOVE animated pixel art that has such a high framerate. It's crisp but at the same time so smooth... yummy! :) How long did that take you?

Drawing this for a friend. She likes Chibis, and it's her birthday tomorrow. This is based on a sausage-legged character of hers (actual sausages for legs).

I'm not entirely happy with the consistency (or logic) behind my line thicknesses, but to be fair this is the first think I've inked in years.

Now for some fresh air, and then we color it.

Oh, I'm also using Krita on Linux. It's not perfect, but it's a metric fuck-ton better than Gimp.

And done.

Mostly happy with it, but it could have benefited from some sense to the color choices. Also some gradients. And many other tiny little things.

Whatever. I'm done with this piece.

Turned out well. I think the problem with gradients and all the other little things is that as soon as you start, you need to apply them everywhere to keep the piece in a consistent style... also... gradients are mostly evil... they can work but it's hard to make them not look amateurish and lazy.

Played with Krita a bit as well, definitely much much better than the Gimp but still takes some getting used to as all the keyboard shortcuts and tool settings are different from what I mainly used so far (Paint Shop Pro 8):

Yeah, I'm still most comfortable with Paint Shop Pro 10, but I think I could get used to Krita. Not that I have much choice on Linux (and PSP hasn't really been updated in forever). Doing the piece taught me a lot about working in Krita. When you dig in to it, they actually have a lot of features designed to make coloring easier.

I'm also quite fond of Sketchbook Pro and Paint Tool Sai, but both are mainly Windows apps. I've heard FireAlpaca is pretty good too, but also Windows (maybe Mac?).

Started and abandoned in December 2013 (kept thinking I'd someday finish it but it's July 2015 now, so I don't think I am ever going to return to it):
