Summer's been over for a bit, even if it doesn't feel like it.

Anyway. Yosemite came out today. Woo!

What up Super Metroid reference:

This makes me happy, as it's one of my favorite songs from the game. It's a shame you don't spend more of a long time in that area during a normal play through.

For reference:

Epic. Both songs.

That spinning bar thing from a few posts up would make a great screen saver.

Wow. That fence just doesn't care. Also, who knew a fence could be strong enough to flip a car? Woo!

At first I was thinking alcohol was involved, but now I'm convinced it was drugs instead :)

I'm going to post these all as a series. One of the funniest things I've seen in years.

Reactions to the announcement that Mewtwo DLC is coming for Smash Bros 4.

Context: Yesterday Nintendo did another one of their broadcasts, 50 things about Smash Bros for Wii U. Of course, they left the biggest news for last. :)

Starting with the tamest one. :)

And related fun, from earlier this year. How much people wanted Mewtwo. :)

Been spending some time upgrading to SDL2 from SDL1.2. Pretty straightforward. Surprised it didn't take longer.

Also upgrading my SCM for current projects to git, from svn. Also relatively straightforward and easy.

Yay for easy! :]

I wish King of Fighters or Street Fighter still had the popularity that Smash Bros has been enjoying. I would gladly buy one of the new consoles and build another fighting stick if there was a large community playing. I just couldn't get into Smash though.

Yeeahhhh... Pokemon always seemed a poor fit for a fighting game, although I must say Pikachu works well enough.

Well Smash Bros has a new game out now/soon, so everybody is talking about it for a reason. ;)

Street Fighter is still very popular. It has top-billing at EVO (alongside Marvel vs Capcom 3). Smash has had a weird revival of late, probably thanks to the documentary. Suddenly a lot of people are aware of how insanely skilled and fast Melee is (Starcraft micro fast), even I want to try my hand at training and challenging some folks. :)

Funny thing, my 2 favorite characters to play in the new game are both Pokemon: A Ninja (Greninja) and a Brawler (Lucario). Their attacks fit how I like to play so well. :)

And Jigglypuff is still insane. If you can train that character right, you can still insta-kill around 50%. It's nuts!

So... google analytics (data pulled from own website and from deviantart) shows me that folks on the internet rarely if ever take an interest in my software and mainly just directly navigate to my pixel art (and surprisingly are most interested in the heraldry cheat sheet, like there is some sort of secret heraldy association who was just waiting for the moment I'd release that)... should I take that as a strong indication to forget about developing software and concentrate on art or will I ignore the data and just continue doing whatever I want to do at any given moment? Leaning towards the latter, despite the other option making more sense should I seriously ever expect to be able to make a living on this stuff.

My honest advice -- do what you enjoy. Keep a day job that isn't completely horrible, and the rest of the time indulge in all the things you love. That's the safe bet, admittedly. If you can work for yourself and things turn out well it feels like you've "won the game," but everything's subjective.

Agree.

Also, remember the barrier to entry for consuming art is "open your eyeballs". For software, there are many more steps. It's such a different commitment to consume software. I think humans naturally just behave like lightning and do what's lazy. I wouldn't look too much into it. :]

That's sound advice but I feel like I lack the required level of sanity/health to follow it. I do not think I will ever be able to get a regular day job again nor do I want that. Every synapse in the mind revolts against the mere thought of it and every fiber of the body (especially the stomach region) shudders and trembles making it impossible for me to even read job offers or applying to any. I somehow expect to be sent off to forced psychological treatment at some point(last psychologist I talked to a couple of weeks ago just shrugged and send me away stating there's nothing he could do to help) or to just starve or freeze to death in a couple of years from now. Oddly enough, the thought of that does not concern me as much as the thought of slowly rotting away in some office.

So yeah, don't mind me, it's just the usual "the end is nigh" scenario going through my head. I have these moments every now and then but I'm sure life will just go on somehow whether I worry about it or not... it somehow always just continued despite all doubts and fears. :)

Here's my take on the matter, which I've been thinking about lately.

I think part of the problem these days is that while the system tells you that you can become anything you want to become, the fact that millions of others are also trying to become it too makes it less likely that what you wanted to become was meant for you. People don't feel like they belong anywhere- at least I don't, because the places I could go don't care if I go or not, there's others who've already been there.

As much as I'd like to believe that there is something out there made exactly for me, I've come to realize that there isn't anything at all- that it all is a charade because nobody knows me.

I think it's important to just find something you're comfortable with. Something you don't have to question, because for whatever reason it is an obvious part of your life.
But I am not really in a successful position to be really giving advice.. so what I say probably is meaningless.

Everything is meaningless and at the same time nothing is. It is vague and intangible. There are no absolute truths. I think my current state of mind is (like it happened before) the result of overworking myself again so much that I forgot to enjoy and again, like before, I ignored the signs and kept going. Lost balance and piled up too many things I want to do on too many todo lists. Feeling overwhelmed is the result and system shutdown(body and mind refusing to continue playing the game) is the consequence. So well... all projects on ice now until system recovers... Wasteland 2 here I come (edit: Ok, even playing games feels like work, so I'll just sit/shut down and do nothing for a while).
