Christmas is over and 2014 is coming to an end. Time to think of how to waste use 2015.

No precise plans here but the lose thoughts I have floating around involve making a game and trying to earn money from doing so (just creating stuff and giving away everything for free is not working at all and the last thing in the world I want to do is to go back to working a regular job (I think I would even prefer trying my luck with homeless living instead)).

Okay, here's what I hope to do in 2015. I can't do everything, but here's what's on my mind:

- (new) Smiles for Steam port (Win, Mc, Linux)
- Finish and launch new Ludum Dare website (the WordPress free version)
- Kick off new Open Source Ludum Dare (was open source but nobody noticed)
- Participate in Ludum Dare. :)
- Make something cool using Arduino's
- Make something cool for Commodore 64
- Make something cool for NES
- Make something for TV (App, Game, etc)
- Make some sort of multiplayer game playable in the browser
- Lose weight/Get in to habit of regular exercise
- Cook lots of new recipes. :)
- Cook/Reproduce late Grandma's recipes (Meatloaf balls w/sauce, Dumplings, etc)
- Get back in to Audio Production
- Dispose of the Junk I have (old dated PCs that don't work, books)
- New Laptop (this current one is falling apart)
- New Tablet (My iPad is so old and unsupported)
- New Phone (I'm tired of this freebie. Not enough x86 software for phones)

I know they say drinking and college go together so well...

I had a great time this year but suffered from a lack of focus. I bounced all over the place and ended up getting a lot done, but nothing completed. Next year I gotta address that! While I managed to get a few physical projects done this year (wiring house for fast ethernet, USB mods, etc) I really whiffed on my other stuff.

I'd like to:

- Release the 1.8 update for Moai and migrate the code to SDL.
- Do a C64 demo of some sort.
- Finish and release one or more nearly complete games I have on the shelf.
- Finish the current phase of the non-game-related project I'm still not ready to talk about. It's big, though. It's why I've been quiet for a few years :)

- More traveling. I'm overdue for another great vacation.

I can do all this -- I just need to focus on one thing and see it through to the end. Then hit the next bullet point.

I want to be more productive and stop slacking off, which I've been guilty of since after I handed in my thesis. Gotta remedy that! :)

Also, I want to arrange my financial situation so that I have enough time to work on my games... oh, and I want to make games this year, did I mention that? :D

I'd like 2015 to be the year where I'm not taking meds to stop my brain chemistry from deviating so much that persistent urges tell me the fastest way to leave the house is by jumping the window.

I'd like some happiness, a job that I can keep without getting ill and maybe an occasional bit of money so I can replace my clothes with ones that have holes in the right places.

Warning: this post might be a bit dark for your tastes :p. I usually don't complain too much on here, but I'm currently dreading the prospect of another fucking year I'm expected to go through.

I tried to stop taking meds before, due to hubris I think. I'm back on them and much happier. Exercise is the natural way to increase happiness, health and productivity, but I haven't been keeping up with it much.

BETTER LIVING THROUGH CHEMISTRY!

But seriously, I'm working up a plan of attack for next year. You know, so I can ignore it.

Here's my to do list:

-Address the main weaknesses in my pixel art abilities, which included color palette making.
-Make some small game demos/prototypes.
-Getting good at actually drawing something (preferably so I can turn into pixels and/or games).

I'm already in the process of changing my career (I'll save those details for another day). My goal for 2015 is to complete that transition and not have to worry about working a regular wage job (I'll be working for myself).
With that I hope to net enough time to enjoy my game development hobby and my new social life (which has been going well).
That's about it. Just one real goal but it's a big one. It's also the reason I haven't been around much. I hope to return in force eventually..

Oh right, jobwise I decided in 2014 never to work as a programmer again. Interested to see what that means for me in 2015 (haven't found a job yet).

-Finish my Diploma, then immediately enroll in a graduate's degree.
-Increase my business so it is self sustaining, and/or get full time at the airport.
-Better my attitude and mental health, up the meds if I need to.
-Clean the fucking garage...
-Fix my car, again.
-See my kids more often.
-Finish this list.
-

I've gotten pretty comfy with SDL in the last few days, so I can kinda cross that off the list -- only I didn't actually put it on the list (thought I did).

26 days into the new year... have not started on my game yet (except for a few loose notes). I am in the process of setting up an efficient development environment (with Emacs!) though so I am doing stuff that will improve my productivity later down the road.

So far exercise is going well, and Smiles is lagging more than I thought. Still, the fact that January is nearly over annoys me. Damn time, flying so fast.

First quarter seems to have rushed past like nothing. And I have zilch to show for it. Learning cool stuff though and if I start developing any game this year, chances are high it will be for the C64.

Ugh, I'm lagging so very hard as well, but the weight loss is happening... I may also be putting an effort in to pursuing someone. ;)

So I'm working as a programmer again, BUT!

I'm working part-time programmer, part-time sports coach, part-time musician, part-time artist

With my sports stuff running like crazy (I have like 30 kids and I'm being mentored by a seriously world-class guy), my band's first gig being a riot, being asked to maybe exhibit some work as an artist, the programming stuff is just a cool way to earn a stable bit of money.

Plus, I get to program in Javascript and C#, probably my two favorite languages right now.

:)

Mid-to-late-year report. 3 of 14 goals realized, but I have fallen behind on my exercise. I cut back on sugar, which made a huge difference. I used to drink Orange Juice like water.

Quote:
- New Laptop (this current one is falling apart)
- New Phone (I'm tired of this freebie. Not enough x86 software for phones)

Ha, as for the spending money ones, I literally bought a new laptop shortly after writing this. New phone, Google is announcing new devices today, so that may happen too. My current phone is going full-stupid right now, refusing to play music because of F-you.

EDIT: *cough* and the deed is done (preorder). Nexus 6P w/ 64 GB in a month.

I usually don't like buying things this early in production (in case of bad screens or such), but Google has been good to me in the past, so I'll trust them.

I've done so much crazy shit this year I'm not even sure how to cap it all off... 2015 has been the best year I've had in well over a decade.

Still working on a game idea I have. The goal is not to finish it any longer, it's too ambitious of a project for me, but I might get it in a playable prototype stage before the end of the year. That was the real goal really, to stick to one idea and try to see it through, at least so I can validate the idea with a prototype. If the idea turns out to be good I will continue to work on it next year, otherwise I will find a new project. I have an idea for a novel I should realize at some point :)
