Converting to your "F" speak, it's in the 50's up here. Which is nuts 'cause it was in the 80's earlier in the week.

It can not be Fall yet. Tower 57 ( https://www.humblebundle.com/store/tower-57 ) was scheduled to be available in Spring 2017 and it is not out yet. So, it's still Spring.

Going to see Dance With The Dead in concert this week. For those that like horror themed new-retro-wave, it's great stuff. Wish you could be there BadMrBox!

You guys read that story about the Activision microtransaction patent? Basically they want to make it so if you're playing multiplayer, you get matched up with (against?) people with better/cooler gear, to make you jealous and so then you'll say "well I gotta buy it." Then if you do in fact buy it, the next part is they put you in a game against scrubs, so that you do really good with the gear you just bought and you think "hey buying things makes me really powerful, I gotta buy more." Whew! Oh, but if you think to yourself, "hmmmm I wonder if they're doing this already" don't worry, when reached for comment their PR person confirmed that it is only a patent and they are not using this in any current game. Thank goodness!

That's amazing. I kinda love that idea, but in a horrible shady-as-f*ck sort of way. It's so devious!

I don't play many (any?) games with paid gear DLC, so it's a non issue for me at the moment (if Monster Hunter started doing that I'd be so sad). But wow. That's a whole new level of shady-as-f*ck.

Nice. It's hard to tell from the photo, but is that a small closet/alcove with 3 small walls covered in sound absorbing foam?

That's the one thing I haven't done yet: acoustically treated a small space. I've spent plenty of money on expensive mics. I suppose there's nothing stopping me from throwing some acoustic foam on my office back wall (if nothing else it would look cool).

Heh, turns out I have a lot of things that are like 2 steps away from being good/done. As I mentioned, no acoustic treatment for audio. My "mad science laboratory", while I have irons and pretty-much all the test gear I actually need (oscilloscope, multi-meters, function generator, power supplies), plus a 3D printer (soon to be 2), I lack a good magnification (i.e. microscope) and ventilation for solder fumes.

I'm sure there's something else that's cool and unfinished, but I'm finally "finishing" my home network, so I can't include that anymore.

Long story short, I'm setting up an "Enterprise Network" at home. I've segregated my network in to VLANs (virtual LANs), each a different trust group. Rather than everything on one network, lines are now drawn.

* SafeWork VLAN, which includes my workstation PCs, a server with important data, and my laptop.
* UnsafeWork VLAN, which includes things I don't trust to be updated/things that lack WPA2-Enterprise support. Things like my 3D printer. I VPN in to it to use it.
* Play VLAN, which includes my phone, my game systems, my Google shit (chromecast, google home), and a media server.
* IOT VLAN, which is currently empty, but things like an Internet Fridge or WiFi Camera have no reason to have access to my Play and Work (they usually talk to an external server anyway).
* VOIP VLAN, which is just my VOIP SIP box. Other than maintenance, there's no reason to access it, and it needs nothing else on my network.
* LD Backup VLAN, which is a standalone VLAN for a backup server I run locally. Also no reason it needs access to the rest of my network (and I can SSH in if I need to see it).

That lead to me buying:
* Ubiquiti EdgeRouterX - the brain of my setup. Just a router and VLAN switch.
* Ubiquiti Ubifi Access Point - my new source of WiFi. b/g/n/ac @ 2.4 and 5 GHz
* 2x TP-Link 8 port Easy Smart Switches - entry level (very inexpensive) managed switches
* Zotac Mini Barebones PC w/ Celeron N3160 quad core CPU. Added 8 GB of RAM, and a 500 GB SSD. Running Ubuntu Server. Getting super fancy with config (running LXD containers with VLAN access, so it's almost like running my own local VPS host)

At least that's the plan. I'm still getting it all working. :)

Yup, small hallway closet. I covered 3 walls and half the door with 2" foam: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LZXBDZR/

I ran out of tile before finishing the door and need to get more, so there is a little noticeable sound leakage coming from the bottom. All in all, it will be about $200 for the whole project.

I live in an apartment and get 40db drop for 1khz tone from inside the booth to the nearest neighbor's wall. That's just above background using a sound-pressure-level meter in dBC.

That home network sounds pretty intense, but a nice project :)

Happy Halloween, friends; for those of you who celebrate it.

Feel free to post in-costume pics if you happened to dress up. Unfortunately, I did not this year. Planned on it, but failed in execution. :]

Had a party on Saturday, but I wore it again this evening as I went trick-or-treating with my nieces.

Got a pretty good haul myself (but most of it came from the candy my brother was giving out).

I love how "Smarties" in Canada are chocolate, and in the US they are "fruity".

We call those Rockets up here.

Clearly our name is better, but Mentos (and Diet Coke) is the more explosive combination. ;)

Ha! I never knew that. Sadly the US doesn't have any version of the Canadian Smarties.

Shame, too, because they are pretty good from what I remember. :]

There is a thing coming up: https://www.analogue.co/pages/super-nt/

Compatibility with actual cartridges huh? Maybe someone will also hack up a re-writable cartridge which one might be able to load via USB from a PC or something. Could be cool stuff to play with... fucking expensive though, guess I'll stick to emulators.

This seems to be the trend right now. Re-implementing classic gaming systems/computers in FPGA's. That Ultimate C64 being another example. There's been a bunch of them in the past too, but yeah, price always sucks.

They're not bad. Like a flatter M&M. I wont go out of my way for them, but I'll never say no to them either. ;)

Coffee Crisp seems to be another mostly-exclusive Chocolate bar from up north that folks seem to like.

A chocolate wafer bar with a hint of coffee.

I finished a demo of a new song today. Overall my production quality, guitar, melody, and vocals are improving. I still have a lot to learn about mixing vocals, and my singing in general needs more work, but hey, progress!

I got in some good Trick or Treating this year, for the first time in.... decades? I dressed up as Dr. Krieger (from Archer) which was stupidly easy to rig up. I didn't get any candy, as opposed to the kids, but that's probably a good thing considering my metabolism isn't jacked up past the ceiling.
