This post is a WIP, will probably edit/add stuff until 2017 ends.

ordered by priority:
  • git gud (draw, paint, ink, carve, pixel)
  • eat fruit regularly, preferably daily (apples, bananas)
  • waste way less time scrolling through twitter feeds (limit to 15m per day max. or 1h per week on sundays or something)
  • take more time working with all those art instruction books I've accumulated
  • take at least some time reading the GDR and being more active in forums (been pretty much ignoring everything and everyone for most of 2017)
  • take time to get back into C64 coding/pixelling, even if it's just one day per month
  • revisit learning CommonLisp and maybe finally start writing some code again
C64 coding is low on priority because I fear it will consume my mind so much again that I'll end up spending more time on it than what would be healthy(once my mind bites into technical stuff it usually can not rest until it's solved and optimized and I end up with insomnia which then negatively affects all other areas of life, especially my ActLikeAHalfwayNormalSocialHumanBeing skill goes downhill fast) and that it would eat too much into my "git gud" practice. Mind seems to already be obsessed with the art crap now and probably can't handle more than one obsession simultaneously.

I think just making goals be public here is pretty good for helping me be on track. It's like being held pseudo accountable XD

So far, for me for 2018
- release a new game (probably Isle of the Damned)
- write one new song per month (inspired by 0xDB's daily drawing)
- continuing to git gud at drawing and digital painting (i waste too much time in my design iterations due to not being able to get the ideas out of my head onto paper)
- restart work on my racing game
- start work on a new RPG (probably a remake/sequel to my rpg The Griffon Legend)
- I, as well, am looking for more ways / trying to be more active on GDR (maybe I'll try to post once a week or something - screenshot saturday?).

2018 started. List stays. Acquired 5 more books in December... pushed onto the stack with the others. I have an impressive little collection of art instruction books now (must be around 25 books). Of course, just having the books does not improve one's art but it still feels good to have them. It's reassuring to know that I can look up stuff offline(and often find better information in the books than what's available for free out there) or just look at pretty pictures for inspiration.

Three of the new acquisitions are "the beginner's guide to sketching characters, creatures & concepts", "masters of sketching" and "the artist's complete guide to facial expression". Picked those because I still feel that I'm lacking strong fundamentals in raw creativity, so sketching even more will train that(already did almost nothing but sketches in 2017, no finished artworks/renderings, as I think raw creativity is more important to practice for me while rendering is mostly just technique and easy to get good at with a bit of drill and keen observation skills) and facial expression to finally be able to understand other people from externally observable signals. :D

Oh hey, I forgot we had a 2018 thread (saw the 2017 thread, was waiting for someone to start a 2018).

Funny thing, I know I'm going to have far less time this year, but I'm going to add a stupid amount of goals, just because.

2018 Goals (extra verbose):
* Build an acceptable Portfolio website, something I actually want to keep updated
* Acquire employment of some sort (gotta pay the bills)
* New Biz Card (I have some artwork I need to do)
* Stickers!!!
* Achieve Coffee Mastery (which basically just means be satisfied with my method, again as someone that doesn't actually like coffee)
* Perfect some more recipes
* Improve my repertoire of "actually healthy" recipes
* Migrate blog away from WordPress to GitHub/Jekyl
* Finally dispose of my old e-mail host (PHPWebHosting, they've been great, but it's time to move on)
* Launch Ludum Dare's search engine feature (nearly done)
* Launch Ludum Dare's file host (we're going to run out of HDD space soon)
* Migrate Ludum Dare servers to Ubuntu 18.04 LTS
* Migrate old Ludum Dare data to new website
* Replace phone battery (Nexus 6P)
* Acquire new phone (Pixel 3)
* Do more videos, live streaming
* Do Neuromancer C64 and Amiga long-play videos
* "Lets Play" my old games (just to have a video record of them)
* Build my Streaming Remote Control, and use it
* Hunt Monsters :)
* Finish Persona 5
* Actually play/finish Night in the Woods, the Ron Gilbert game, whatever else it was I had on my list
* PLAY MORE GAMES!
* Decide my new "method" of game development (web and native)
* Participate in Ludum Dare

Stretch Goals:
* Tabletop game. Design a board/dice/card game (more likely board+dice). 2018 is looking like a potentially tabletop-centric year for me.
* Learn Go. Of the modern system level languages (Go, Rust, Jai, etc), to me at least, Go seems the most in line with my thinking (on paper anyway... there's things I think it's missing but hey).
* Acquire a synth, something I can use while being lazy on the couch, and start using it regularly (i.e. like someone would do casually with an acoustic guitar)
* Make a working joystick
* Some other awesome electronics project
* Demoscene? Hello. Maybe just play with WebGL and Vulkan, and think a bit about how I would structure something that was pure visual
* Start a game. Something I see merit in. Don't have to finish it, just want to start it.
* Open my online store (Ludum Dare merch, etc)

New goals for a new year:

* Keep this job. I need two more years or so.
* At least push Allegro.pas to beta with full Delphi compatibility.
* Push MinGRo to beta too.
* Finish a game, and not just a demo: it must be A Game.
