I thought this was quite impressive.

Someone did a portrait of a girl a few years ago. It was done pixel by pixel but I can't seem to find it again. If anyone has a link please post it.

Damn, that is very impressive... I've always wanted pixeling skills but... I don't think I'd ever reach that kind of skill, heh. Awesome.

I think that is borderline insane; then again, folks such as myself questioning what is and is not sane may very well be out of the question ;)

Rock on. I love all the video game references. The CS one is very well done.

Dust 2, anyone? :)

Greatest Masterpiece ever. Deeply moving; it brought a tear to my eye. Crying or Very sad

It is certainly good and maybe the largest single piece of pixel art i've ever seen, but by far not the best skillwise.
Just look at the stuff in the Pixeljoint Hall Of Fame and you will find many a piece that is crafted much better.

I don't know if I'd consider this pixel art--at least by the stricter definitions-- as it's really quite messy and doesn't pay much attention to pixel level detail. It's much more of a sketch (the magma is horrendous, too). I think this guy is getting a lot of praise just because of the piece's size rather than anything else, which is really just a testament to how much patience and free time the guy has.

I disagree. Check out this page showing how he did it:
http://www.swmoore.com/paintproof.html

Not all of it, but there's plenty of pixel level detail in there.
Also, it's not the typical sprite type of work which seems to have become the norm. That doesn't mean it's not good/detailed/whatever.

looks like this is a case of quantity over quality.
Sure, it may be detailed a little, but it all looks rushed.
