I always forget that the lingua franca of the internet is 'American', not 'English' :-)

Something I've been thinking about: should we set up a tutorial/help/getting started sticky thread listing resources to get people started on game development? This could include info on Allegro, SDL, OpenGL tutorials, etc.

You mean kind of like this thread? Granted, it probably needs a better title, but any expansion of the resources on there would be welcomed.

Ah, yes. That's what I'm talking about. You're right, it does need a better title. I had forgotten about that page entirely.

I was thinking of writing some sort of "What happens when you try to migrate your 2D app from a 2D library to a 3D one" tutorial (like... *cough* OpenGL). I'll probably work on shaders instead.

I think the answer to that tutorial is "You don't!" :) It's such a pain in the ass fixing all of the drawing code and then dealing with stuff like "oops, I need to be power of 2." That said, I don't want to discourage the writing of more tutorials. In fact, forget about all of that shader stuff. Tutorial write, start!

That is a good subject. But you're right, the allure of doing shader stuff does sound like more fun. :)

Ditto, I've been planning to write an HLSL tutorial but every time I sit down I end up writing shaders.
I've been on "vacation" for like two months now and I still can't find the time to do everything I wanna do.

I think "autumn" is a much prettier word than "fall." :)

I also support the migration to opengl or such things for even 2d games, though I only did it because sdl in Python was not fast enough. :P Once I got a basic library of functions set up it was hardly any different than before to draw things. =)

It's called 'Fall' because that's what the leafs do.

I touched up my website this evening and I think it looks a lot nicer. Maybe you'll think the same? :P

No laughing about the missing closing div tag. The 1 error on validation says that. I will find it tomorrow. :P

You really think so? It looks pretty soft to me. What RGB value would you give it to reduce the glare? It's at C80000 right now.

Badass!
I remember, even as a child wondering why noone ever made a magnetic suspension. I guess at the time it was a cost issue. Also a my-car-attracts-metal issue. But this is Way better then anything I had ever thought of.
Anyone who glanced over this link really should check it out.

That does look pretty awesome. Seems like it requires cars to be much higher off the ground, though. The jump in the end of the video was pretty funny. I can just imagine it now: cars everywhere jumping over obstacles!

Uh, I thought that was kind of dumb. Looks like there are a bunch of videos of this guy being silly? Oh well. Not my kind of humor I guess. :)

Very useful game development related wiki: www.gpwiki.org. Should we add this to the "read first" thread?
