Kick ass head tracking using Wiimote.

It's like real world displacement mapping, and your TV's the texture. :)

That guy is a beast. Good lord he doesn't stop writing apps that do funky things with the Wii remote.

Wow... just ... wow. That's simple but *damn* cool. I'd love to have a job where I do nothing but do crazy experiments on funky hardware all day.

Apparently that's what university's supposed to be. Why didn't nobody tell me that when I was young. :(

Yes, but you pay them, instead of the other way around ;)

Very important distinction when you have a mortgage to feed. Otherwise, yeah, that's where it's at.

Man. Pay me to do what I want. Sounds like I need to learn to want to do data entry. :)

You know, I had this idea for a while but since I've never been a hardware guy I never knew exactly how to implement it. Cool to see that the collective consciousness is still alive.

Here's to hoping that some developer decides to actually make some crazy hardware to get this working. SEGA maybe? They used to be into crazy ass hardware...

There's a Planet of the Apes movie marathon on all night on AMC.

Now, get your stinking paws off me, you damn, dirty, APES!!!!

Ooh, and my other favorite quote:

Stewart, she was to be the new Eve, with our hot and eager help of course.

Only Moses could deliver that line in a believable manner.

Normally, I have to take anything I see on kotaku with a grain of salt, but this looks legit. I think it's time to buy a Wii. :)

Btw sonrisu...according to the clock here, you made your post at exactly 12:00am on Jan 01, 2008. :D

I'm not big on promises or resolutions, because we all know 99% of them are pure bunk, so instead I offer reasonable expectations when people ask. I'd be happy to go on record and state that 2007 was one of the very worst years I've ever had, and yet even then some highly desirable elements were embedded in there... I'm thinking of the GDR's continuing maturity as a community, the home theater renovation project, and some significant improvements professionally... still I fully expect this year to cut me a little slack ;)

I expect to return to work on FB: Cry Havoc now that I have finished my experiments with OpenGL. And while I don't honestly expect to have it completed in 2008 I'd love to see that happen. 365 days is a lot shorter than it seems sometimes!

Yep, 2007 pretty much sucked for me too. Part of it was the job search, and the pisser about it is, I didn't get out of my crap company, just moved to a different dept. A positive was I pretty much finished my compiler/interpreter which is the largest hobby project I've ever completed.

Related, I tried out that Wiimote on the PC thang. After some fighting, I got it working, but it's not the most elegant thing to set up. You need to sync and add the device every time you want to use it. Double unfortunately, I had to enable 2 hack features of this program GlovePIE to get anything at all out of it, so that might hinder me from trying such cool stuff as the head tracking.

That's sad to hear. I should try syncing up my wiimote with my Mac and see if I can get it to pair up. I don't see why not. It's a shame you won't be doing the headtracking. I wanted to see some video, or something. :)

@ nodtveidt: It was 11PM for me, local time. :)

From what I've read, it works better on the Linux and the Mac, since they didn't have to deal with multiple vendor bluetooth stacks.
